Woodinville DADUs: City or County Rules?
Your Woodinville mailing address is not enough to choose DADU rules. The city says more than half of ZIP code 98072 lies in unincorporated King or Snohomish County. The parcel jurisdiction determines the land-use and building path.
Sources checked November 5, 2026. Confirm the requirements for your parcel with its permitting authority.

How do you identify the reviewing authority?
- Open the interactive map on Woodinville’s My Property Info page.
- Search the address or parcel number and identify city limits.
- Record the jurisdiction and county together with the zoning.
- Use the city or county application resources for that result.
Save the result with your project notes. If the boundary or parcel information is unclear, request confirmation before paying for drawings based on a particular set of city dimensions.
Official guidance: Woodinville property jurisdiction lookup.
What changes between the three paths?
| Parcel result | Start your DADU research here |
|---|---|
| City of Woodinville | City permitting and the current Woodinville development standards. |
| Unincorporated King County | County ADU rules, including urban, rural-town and other rural distinctions. |
| Unincorporated Snohomish County | County detached-ADU bulletin and the parcel’s urban or rural zone. |
This is an authority-routing table, not an eligibility decision. Once you know the authority, establish the applicable use, dimensional and site requirements for that parcel.
Official guidance: King County Code Title 21A, including 21A.08.030 B.7, Snohomish County detached ADU bulletin, revised June 2025.
Does the water provider follow the same boundary?
Treat the service provider as a separate lookup. A utility district’s area is a different question from whether the lot is inside a city. Contact the provider shown for the property and describe the proposed detached home.
For example, a county-reviewed cottage served by a water district still needs the district’s connection response. Keep the permit-office and utility-provider names on the same checklist so an approval from one is not mistaken for an answer from the other.
What should you establish before choosing a floor plan?
- The reviewing government and zoning.
- The location and legal status of the principal home.
- Whether the detached unit is eligible under that jurisdiction.
- The water, wastewater and access approach for the proposed location.
With those questions resolved, compare floor plans against the actual building envelope. TimberworX can discuss the first steps in a free consultation; detailed feasibility research and design are paid preconstruction services.
